㊾ Outline of work on global warming

On Halloween in 1983, a group of atmospheric scientists made a presentation summarizing the new dangers of catastrophic climate change as a possible consequence of a nuclear war. According to their calculations, soot rising from a burning city after a hydrogen bomb exchange could lead to a "nuclear winter" worldwide. Years of cold and dark times threaten the survival of humankind.
Computer calculations showing the effects of dust and the fragility of the atmosphere have instilled in the general public an image of catastrophic changes in the global climate, causing fierce controversy between governments and parties.

Congress has asked the Academy of Sciences to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the impact of increased CO2. In a panel report by leading experts, the Academy of Sciences said, "We may be deeply concerned about the expected environmental changes that temperature rises will bring, and we may be in trouble in a way that we could barely imagine." Pointed out.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released its own report. The tone of the EPA's conclusions was more disturbing. Significant temperature rises can occur decades later and may have "catastrophic" consequences. "The New York Times took it all the way through. The EPA report stated that government agencies were" not a theoretical issue, but a threat whose impact would be felt in the next few years. " It was the first example.

American journalists tended to get the "news" of scientific development from the New York Times. The newspaper's veteran science writer, Sullivan, has begun listening to Schneider, Hansen and several other scientists who are wary of global warming and are trying to draw attention to the issue.

In 1981, Hansen sent Sullivan a scientific report shortly before publication. This is a report announcing that the planet is getting significantly warmer, and this article graced the front page of The New York Times.

Sullivan threatened the world by reporting that unprecedented warming could cause disastrous sea-level rise. The editorial further stated, "It is no longer unimaginable that a complete overhaul of energy policy may be needed."

The Department of Energy responded by canceling some funding to Hansen.

㊼ Outline of work on global warming

Around 1966, Roger Revel gave a lecture on the future of the Earth to students at Harvard University. Among the students was Senator's son, Albert Gore Jr. Seeing the rising curve of atmospheric CO2 from the keyring, Gore was shocked, "Because the Earth is so big and nature is so powerful, our actions do not have a significant and lasting impact on the natural system. The speculation from childhood has been shattered.

In 1981, Gore became a member of the House of Representatives and was more prepared than anyone else to pull climate change out of the world of scientific debate into the stage of political debate.
When Reagan took office, the government was openly ignoring environmental concerns and planned to significantly reduce funding for CO2 investigations.

Gore and several other lawmakers decided to confuse the government by holding a parliamentary hearing on the proposed funding cuts. And some newspapers focused on the testimony of compelling scientists such as Revel and Schneider.
Newspapers were "the first to detect public anxiety," and the mass media was the most powerful means of persuading parliamentarians to pay attention to scientific issues.
