The bombing had devastated the area, so they were packed into wagons and moved again. This time it was at the Bergen-Bensel concentration camp. There they were forced to dig large grave pits. The purpose was to hastily bury the corpses of thousands of Jews who had been left there for a long time. There was no food at all, and they finally started eating grass. On the morning of April 14, 1945, when they were on the verge of starvation, they woke up to find that there were no guards left. Everyone rushed into the kitchens and warehouses, fighting for food and clothing at random. Soon after, a British army truck moved in and saved everyone.
